Paint the Town green

About

The Tree Club is a non-profit organization based out of Mettupalayam, initiated by a group of young, like-minded, nature enthusiasts and tasked with the core objective of augmenting the green cover of the region. By doing so, the club seeks to indirectly address several factors that contribute to the preservation of nature such as improving biodiversity in the region, capturing rainwater during monsoons, maintaining the ground water table at optimum levels and combating air pollution.

Mission 2025

Plant 2 Lakh Trees and 100 Forests in and around the town region

Vision

To help make Mettupalayam the most desirable town to live in terms of green environment, clean air, thriving biodiversity and a carbon neutral town.

Why not Trees!

Imagine a future like that of the past — trees abound.

The importance of Trees to human beings, at a basic level, has reached alarming proportions over the years, and is now at its direst, today. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a world body for assessing the state of scientific knowledge related to climate change, its impacts, potential future risks and possible response options has conclusively stated: “Land is a part of the climate solution.”

“Land must remain productive to maintain food security as the population increases and the negative impacts of climate change on vegetation increase. This means there are limits to the contribution of land to addressing climate change, for instance through the cultivation of energy crops and afforestation. It also takes time for trees and soils to store carbon effectively.”

Rampant urbanization and industrialization have sucked the life force out of the planet; mass-felling trees, clearing large swathes of land and encroaching into water bodies. Trees are the only logical answer to reverse the consequences of climate change and global warming. Not only does it have a host of benefits for the air above the ground (cool, cleanse, decarbonize & depollute) but also keeps the integrity of the soil and the subterranean ecosystem down below, by means of preventing runoff, retaining ground water and preventing soil erosion, among several other factors.
